| I remember my very first trip......my flight arrived Saigon before Lan's........and when I got off the plane, besides thinking I was going to melt in the tropical heat....I realized....I really didn't know what Lan looked like! I had seen her picture on the web site, but that had been a while. After controlling the urge to "panic"...there were more flights arriving...and as if God had taken a highlighter.....in the midst of an ocean of people....I knew who Lan was. A God thing.....? I think so! And equally important....the start of a friendship based on the love for God's children, regardless of their nationality, language, color, or anything else, and a friendship that will surpass time, etc. And to think, someday we will be neighbors in the Blue Ridge Mountains (with Kathy and Buck, volunteers VN2004). Imagine when I will be confined to my rocking chair on my front porch, I know that I will be able to count on Lan to ride her bike up the mountain with a basket of honey from her bees, homemade bread from her kitchen, and vegetables from her garden. She is a very special human being!
