 |   Being retired from private practice I figured that this might be my last chance to go on a dental mission while I was in good health.  The first mission that I saw on the ADA website was DDS4KIDS.  I looked into it and immediately thought that the kids in Vietnam might have a real dental need.    I was accepted for this trip and hooked up with the team in Saigon and quickly felt accepted by the group.  We traveled south to the Mekong Delta and then to rural grade schools. We treated tons of kids, most of which had never seen a dentist.  The kids were great patients and treating them was very rewarding for me.    I was impressed by the people of Vietnam who seemed so happy even though they had so little.  It was real eye opener to realize how much I and my family have compared to many others in this world. Any one looking for a mission trip should consider this one.  You don’t have to be a dentist to be on this team.  We need people to work with supplies, equipment, sterilization, and those who are good working with kids. Thank you for this opportunity Lan. Dr. Bob Beattie,  Associate Adjunct Clinical Professor at University of Minnesota, School of Dentistry.
